Horsepower and Color

This scrapbooking layout was part of a “challenge” to use “color”. Since I am a NASCAR fan I figured…why not use the paint schemes from some of the cars. Course two of the cars in the photo’s happen to be of #99….who happens to be my driver. Edwards has a different “major” sponsor this year…blue and white car….not bad. Anywho….yes if you haven’t watched any car races you might just take a moment to look…

The cars tend to have different schemes for their different sponsors. You can’t miss Danica Patricks #7 Go Daddy car (the #5 car in picture is of Mark Martin when he was in #5) over in the Nationwide Series…and yes you can either love her or hate her…personally I think she can drive. I saw her race when we went to Vegas…if she couldn’t drive she wouldn’t be there….just saying…

The song that makes me feel…

Tags

I think Monday’s will be time for me to pick a tune that means something to me. Makes me feel. Brings me back to times past…the good. The bad. Emotions. I am a fan of the Foo Fighters…also of Nirvana…amazing how different the two bands are. The song “Best of You”…I think it can be taken two different ways….the first meaning someone or a group is taking advantage of you etc…the other is asking yourself….is someone getting the best of you? Meaning are you giving someone the best of YOU? Are you being attentive…are you being the best friend, sister, brother, daughter, son, mother, father, wife, husband to your loved ones? Something to think about…not letting life get the best of you and you GIVING the best of YOU to life. So the next time you hear the Foo Fighters belt out that song…take a step back and reflect.

“Best Of You”

I’ve got another confession to make
I’m your fool
Everyone’s got their chains to break
Holdin’ you
Were you born to resist or be abused?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?Are you gone and onto someone new?
I needed somewhere to hang my head
Without your noose
You gave me something that I didn’t have
But had no use
I was too weak to give in
Too strong to lose
My heart is under arrest again
But I break loose
My head is giving me life or death
But I can’t choose
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh…
Oh…Oh…Oh…Oh…
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
The life, the love you’d die to heal
The hope that starts the broken hearts
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
I’ve got another confession my friend
I’m no fool
I’m getting tired of starting again
Somewhere new
Were you born to resist or be abused?
I swear I’ll never give in
I refuse
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Has someone taken your faith?
Its real, the pain you feel
You trust, you must
Confess
Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you?
Oh…

Racing at Talladega…

Tags

, ,

As I posted earlier….I am a fan of NASCAR. Admittedly when I was growing up I have to say I was quite annoyed when a car race was on tv…on-our-family-cable-free-we-only-get-like-5-channels and one of them is showing cars driving around in circles. What a bore…so I thought that up until like 2005 when I was working at a Ford Dealership…then I was hooked. Course this was after turning wrenches on aircraft where I learned a little more respect for how mechanical things work. I would love to drive as fast as I could on one of those oval tracks…that would be awesome.

As I sit here typing watching the race pre-broadcast I can’t help but laugh at the comments over on NASCAR’s website about the track at Talladega being dried by the jet-dryers and that it was now a Juan Montoya free zone. You would have to live under a rock if you didn’t catch some media blurb about the Daytona race in February when Montoya’s car broke and he and machine were doing probaby 190 miles per hour right into a jet dryer on the track. Complete craziness ensued afterwards…..thank God no one was hurt. Montoya’s car was a shell…and the jet dryer truck pretty much went up in flames.

Then the #2 Brad Keselowski became an instant Twitter “god” when he tweeted a picture of his view from the track when the drivers were sitting in their motionless cars because the race had been stopped. I think Brad gained like 100 thousand followers that night. Shortly after I joined twitter as well….and eventually became a Brad follower. Yea…hard to let go of the whole incident between Brad and my driver Carl Edwards a few years ago…BUT okay…I am over it. Brad is pretty cool…he takes like 10-15 minutes after every race to answer questions from his followers. Most of the NASCAR drivers and their teams are like that…FAN FRIENDLY. Imagine that…I have since started following some of Carls pit crew members and his PR team…they are real people…they are funny…they pass on info like where the drivers are to get autographs…I don’t get that same info from the NFL players…they seem to be complete prima donnas. Um…forgetting the fans are paying their paychecks. Can’t remember which team…but one of the pit crew guys tweeted a photo of his bathroom from his casino room when they were in Vegas….now I know to use twitter to find out where teams are staying. :)

NASCAR gets that…they put fans first. The drivers have skills…a lot of skills. “Wild Thing”….aka Kyle Busch in the #18 car…watch him…he loves to drive a lose car…he is crazy…and okay…gets booed ALOT. But I think he takes the boos as a badge of honor. My driver….Carl Edwards…I don’t know what is going on with his team….something isn’t quite right there…can’t put my finger on it. I am more than ready to see him do another back flip from his car after he wins a race. Yea…I missed the race last week….must have been quite the conversation on the radio. Someone made a mistake…I am sure Carl will say something about it today….better communications guys…come on!

Alright….race will be on soon…have the scanner all ready to go…enjoy your Sunday and have a great week!

~8~ A horse named “I’ll Have Another” won….I am gonna go out on a limb here and say this will be yet another year where there is no Triple Crown winner. The favorite had a terrible start out of the gate when he got very banged up…I bet that horse wins the Preakness…maybe even the Belmont. Time will tell ~8~

The year is flying by and here it is the first weekend of May. I have been paying attention to that first weekend for as long as I can remember…why you ask…because the first Saturday in May is the Kentucky Derby. I don’t tune in anymore for the pre-broadcast because for whatever reason the media seems to feel that the television viewers are more interested in the “who’s who” at the race and not informing the viewers about the stories of the jockeys, owners, trainers and most importantly, the three year old thoroughbreds who are there to run the race.

This year is the 138th race…wow…that is pretty incredible if you think about it. So, the first race was in 1875…not long after our Civil War really. Before the automobile. Before the Wright Brothers. Before Queen Elizabeth II was born. Before the Great Depression. Before telegrams. Before man walked on the moon. Before Vietnam. Before President Reagan was shot. Before the astronauts lost their lives on Challenger. Before East and West Germany were united again after the fall of the wall. Before former President Clinton said he did not inhale. Before Han Solo and Indiana Jones and Jack Ryan. Before “my precious” became a marathon at the movie theater. Before “whatever” became a common everyday saying. Before 911. Before “smart” phones or any phones for that matter. Before politically correctness became the “norm”…

Just think about that for a few minutes. Can you even begin to imagine the people who have attended “The Greatest Two Minutes in Sports” at Churchhill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. The stories..the lives…the dreams…just imagine. What would the people who attended that first race think of the present day trip around the track? Do you think they thought this race would become what it has or even still be around? This first race of the Triple Crown…all the “hats”…mint juleps…and the horses. I think they would notice the change in the horses who run around the track…the horses have most certainly changed and I don’t think for the better.

So,another first Saturday in May..and another Kentucky Derby..maybe you will think to catch the broadcast and take a moment to think about all the history. I have no idea what horses are even entered…I tend to root for the black or grey horses…so we will see.

It is officially the weekend…whahoo. Been a long week…looking very forward to sleeping in a little in the morning. Since I have started this blogging thing…I have been trying to figure out the best way to encourage to me post and keep on posting. It looks like some people in the blogosphere have a schedule of sorts to help them with subjects etc. I think I will do that as well.

One of my other hobbies is digital scrapbooking. It is just as addictive as the actual real paper scrapbooking…but less mess…and with one click you can start over….or erase a mistake. Not like with real scrapping….mistakes can cost you when you buy that one dollar…or three dollar sheet of paper and screw it up. I still have all of my paper scrapping stuff….I need to get rid of it…I haven’t used it in years and it is just taking up space. I have lots of pictures to scan and scrap…and I have found an awesome website to buy more digi scrapping stuff. So…I think Fridays will now be my digi layout blog post.

The picture is one of Molas Summit in southwestern Colorado. The Rockies will ALWAYS be my home. I am a Colorado native….wouldn’t mind moving back there. Something about the air perhaps…so enjoy the photo…I have the weekend to begin and the rum and coke are calling.

Monday’s highlight….

The work week is not starting out well…between glitches with systems that someone somewhere thought they could edit a template and it just effect their own stuff lets say when in fact it messed with the entire global template and I was about to scream at the top of my lungs because I feel like out of say 75 people in my organization I am the ONLY one who really understands the system..and everything is now beyond jacked up…to then being dictated to about a work assignment from someone who thinks they are gods to admin and think they have the right to tell me what to do….to my highlight when I yes made a rum/coke run immediately after work (YES it is only Monday and I was buying rum already) and then went to fill up the tank and here it comes…wait for it….wait for it….I saved 60 cents per gallon on a 12 gallon fill up. Gas was $4.02…was I think $4.12 or something last I filled up. (okay…sorry but I am all for drill baby drill…did you notice the report that now folks are saying those wind farms are causing global warming…REALLY? And here is a question for the electric car people…ask your power company where that electricity comes from when you plug in your car? Just saying ;) Where is the warp speed…beam me up technology? Oh yea…WAIT….the US does not have an active space program…yea…okay…I would truly not mind going back to wagons and horses and a hard days work…I would survive without technology)

And that was the highlight of my day…60 cents a gallon. What an absolutely pathetic life I lead. ;) And okay….if you haven’t figured out…my mood….well FAR from…um….yea….good…

But 60 cents is 60 cents…and for me to take some positive from my day and last day of April two thousand and twelve….well….yea…..60 cents. :)

Random “Growing Up” Question

So…for all of you out there who have left the home you grew up in…here is a question…did your parents leave your room as it was when you left or did they turn it into something else…like a guest room, office, or even a personal theater (okay I doubt anyone out there had their room turned into that….I would LOVE to have a room like that). And if your room is still the same how do you feel about it?

Me…well this is how I looked at my hometown…I wanted out of there probably shortly after we moved there during the middle of third grade. Not that the place is bad…nor the people….I just wanted out. Out for what? Its been so long…not sure.

I…okay…was not your typical teenage girl…I did not have posters of the boy hair bands or lets see…Tom Cruise. (great actor…ahem) Towards the end of grade school, I had posters of animals….was thinking at that time I wanted to be a veterinarian. Then the posters of jet fighters went up….lots of them. I had a HUGE poster of a F-14 Tomcat (sadly mothballed now and no longer in service) on one of my walls. Same plane Cruise flew in Top Gun. I actually wrote the big aircraft manufacturers for the letter size “hand-out” posters of several different fighters. I spose today kids can just email for that same stuff or just print out a downloaded picture from the net. Coincidentally, I ended up fixing planes in the military…loved it in fact. Still love planes…especially the fighters.

So when I was preparing to leave the nest, I think I had all of my stuff paced in boxes….not sure what I did with that huge poster….kept a few of the other “hand-outs”…the one given to me from my Uncle when he flew F-16’s for the Montana Air Guard…and of course the F-15 Eagle ones….I worked on those planes so the pictures are special. I probably had like five or six boxes. Probably two of them were just stuffed animals. What is with girls and stuffed animals? I don’t have any of those animals anymore. Didn’t feel the need to keep them. And I moved too much.

I think I have a medium size box…well maybe even smaller of stuff. High school yearbook…okay…I only have one. One out of three years. Funny…doesn’t seem to have really affected me much. I have some stories from grade school, junior high yearbooks…some pictures….not much really.

When I packed all my stuff and asked my Mom to hold onto it…she seemed a little upset. I was the first to leave home…I had told her probably I wasn’t coming back…that was not the plan…although I did end up “home” for like a year and a half back in 2005….long story there…future blog material.

The house I grew up in…or at least from third grade was sold shorty after I left for the service. My parents moved…and since them my Mom divorced my stepfather and has been married now for 10 years to her present husband. Different house now too…and that house just doesn’t feel like home. So I wonder blogosphere….did your childhood room transform? I can’t see keeping my kids room the same…they have a few years until they leave the house…but no….guestrooms eventually. The plan is to raise them into adults who contribute to society…not keeping a kids room and time-warping them or me back to childhood. They won’t be kids forever…I wasn’t.

Taking a schedule for granted….

Tags

, , , ,

Okay…haven’t mentioned the fact that I am a fan of the cars that do circles around the track…not the “go-carts”….but the NASCAR type with drivers like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart…my driver of course is the one who is sponsored by the insurance company who has a “duck” for their mascot aka speaker.

Imagine my dismay when I go through the tv schedule to see no race scheduled….oh man….what the heck…maybe the broadcast is on that other channel I can’t stand. So lets go check the website….

And there in full color is the driver who WON yesterday…because the race WAS yesterday…and I missed it!! SERIOUSLY!! ;) And no….the M&M dude (very entertaining…he ALWAYS gets booed.) is NOT my driver. (One word here—AFLAC! ;) and okay…two more words….Cousin Carl )

This was not the first time this past week I have done this…or for that matter this month. Co-workers who are fans of football (American football…not soccer) were asking me…hey who did your team draft? My reply after looking at them like a deer in the headlights was…oh yea….the draft is this week. Forgot about that. Yea…my team is rebuilding…hence my race buddy (boyfriend isn’t willing to spend money on the races or football games….race buddy…well she and I went to Vegas last month for the race(s)…had a BLAST!! See pit row pic below) and I are already planning a trip down south to the car race next March…imagine AGAIN my dismay when I find out my football team will be here playing on a Monday night versus one of the bay teams…team happens to be the one my boyfriend likes…yea…didn’t bother to check the pre-schedule when it came out for the NFL season to see my team would be back here to play…again.

BUT wisdom and financial reality got me out the whipping the plastic out to buy tickets me to NOT whip out the plastic to buy tickets (yes…I just noticed it LOOKED like I actually BOUGHT tickets….um no :() to that November game. Yes it hurt and I found out yesterday my team didn’t draft a quarterback…REALLY???????

Sigh…another year of “team” rebuilding…at least my driver finished 10th yesterday and is 9th in points…and the next race IS Sunday….this time I checked….spose I will have to do that yard work I was SPOSE to do yesterday…no point waiting for the “talking heads” to wrap up their broadcast cuz “Digger” is already home relaxing and getting ready for next weeks race.

~Liz

ps…Digger is a character from the broadcast channel….”boogity boogity boogity lets go racing boys” …for you non-NASCAR fans. :)

(slightly out of breath)…TAG you are IT!

As I previously posted….and maybe I am a bit more than slightly out of breath…I saw this tag game going on over at now one of my favorite places to pop in at….jensinewall and now that the weekend is here…okay…I haven’t even been blogging um…a week yet. BUT I WANNA PLAY! ;)

So going by the rules…I am already breaking the first cuz I haven’t offically been “tagged” yet….oh well….this is the internet and I don’t have to play by the rules…so here are 5 questions (ahem….I am making my own rules here…why cuz I can) followed by my 11 bloggers whom I have chosen to “chase” (If you are tagged….and wanna play please leave your answers in the comments ;) and yes I am editing again…..feel free to keep this tag game going by either using my same rules….make your own…but choose some of your favorite bloggers to tag in another post on your blog. I THINK I am done editing ):

1. What story does your family always tell about you? (okay….I know there have to be some really good ones…maybe create a new post about it…just let me know here so I can come read ALL about it…hint…hint…hint…) At Knottsberry Farm when I was like 8….sister like 6 and we thought the train robbers on train ride were in fact real. It must have shown on our faces cuz apparently “robbers” in full cowboy robber gear couldn’t keep a straight face and felt bad about scaring us. I was protecting sister…ha ha…I should have said go ahead… TAKE her! ;)

2. If you had to change your first name, what would you change it to? hmmmmm….something from the family…Hope…maybe

3. If you were reincarnated as an animal/drink/ice cream flavor, what would it be? wolf…rum and coke…double chocolate

4. What would you name the autobiography of your life? Seriously? ;)

5. If you could be any fictional character, who would you choose? Cat Woman…or a female Mad Hatter

Nearly forty something in this blogosphere…

Tags

, , , ,

Okay….so I am here blogging again….but that “again” statement isn’t really “honest”. Again would mean like I blogged for more than um…three months….lets not discuss how long I blogged…anyways….before I allow my fingers to continue to go off on a tangent I have a few observances to record here publicly and questions to ask.

If you are reading this I am wondering what age group you fall in….me….I am turning forty this year…haven’t decided quite yet if I will let it bother me or not. Chances are it will be just another day…unless when my Mom calls to say Happy Birthday and mentions she can’t believe she has a daughter who is now forty. Yea..I think I just may let that call go to voice mail or the answering machine.

Sorry….that was another tangent….focusing now….what was I gonna blog again ;)

Oh yea….there are quite a few twenty somethings out there blogging….lots of em in fact. Some of those blogs I am pleasantly surprised after reading a post that the blogger is in fact in their 20’s…in college just starting their life…..yea I remember those days…not the college thing…me…I chose to go the military route….don’t regret any of it….could have made different choices. Everyone can say that…but those years…I was young. :)

We don’t understand life any better at forty than at twenty, but we know it and admit it. ~ Jules Renard

Then I come across some of the…well…ahem…kinda-scary-wow-really-can’t-believe-they-actually-blogged-that-sorta-blogs and I quickly keep on surfing.

So that being said…not that I don’t enjoy the twenty something blogs…but if you are like mid-thirty or older…..married….divorced….working but don’t quite like that job…parent (my kids are awesome and are my heart) and are out there….please comment or click the like button…that way I can find your blog and we can converse. :)
